CEN Workshop 77 - Modules for Electro-Mechanical Actuators in Aircraft

The standardization process is now on its way through the CEN Workshop 77 that held its kick-off meeting on January 28, 2015 in Brussels at the European Committee for Standardization  (CEN) premises. The objective is to issue a CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) within twelve months. The CWA is open to everybody (industrials, academics etc) not only to ACTUATION2015 members. Even after the kick-off, people are welcome and can register by contacting the Secretariat.

The following items have been identified for standardization and will be the subject of five Working Groups (WGs):

  1. Power Drive Electronics modular architecture guidelines (PDE guidelines) & Internal Standardized Supply Interface (ISSI).
  2. Power Core Module (PCM).
  3. Control & Monitoring Module (CMM).
  4. Protocol for Inverter Control Over LVDS (PICOL).
  5. Motor interface.

The CEN Workshop 77 is performing its work according to a Business Plan on “Modules for Electro-Mechanical Actuators in Aircraft”.

Within twelve months, the WGs will work and communicate through e-Committee, e-mail and teleconferences to achieve a CWA which is accepted by the workshop members.

As final output, the CWA will be published. The CWA aims to initiate further international standardization of Electro-Mechanical Actuators.

René Eveleens, ‎Department Manager Aircraft Systems at NLR, will chair the workshop while the Secretariat will be provided by David Eisape, project manager in charge of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN.
